I Kill You With My Bear Hands!

Make of this what you will, but I must say that I profoundly disagree with the attorney quoted at the beginning of this article. I think that they should have to worry about getting harassed because of the way they vote. Heeheehoho?

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Supporters of the ballot measure that banned gay marriage in California have filed a lawsuit seeking to block their campaign finance records from public view, saying the reports have led to the harassment of donors.
"No one should have to worry about getting a death threat because of the way he or she votes," said James Bopp Jr., an attorney representing two groups that supported Proposition 8, Protect
Marriage.com and the National Organization for Marriage California. "This lawsuit will protect the right of all people to help support causes they agree with, without having to worry about harassment or threats."
The lawsuit, filed Wednesday in federal court in Sacramento, asks the court to order the secretary of state's office to remove all donations for the proposition from its Web site.
It also asks the court to relieve the two groups and "all similarly situated persons" from having to meet the state's campaign disclosure requirements. That would include having to file a final report on Proposition 8 contributions at the end of January, as well as reports for any future campaigns the groups undertake.
Proposition 8, approved by 52.3 percent of California voters on Nov. 4, reversed a state Supreme Court decision allowing gay marriage. The measure's opponents have asked the Supreme Court to overturn it.
The lawsuit filed Wednesday cites a series of incidents in which those who gave money to support Proposition 8 received threatening phone calls, e-mails and postcards. One woman claims she was told: "If I had a gun, I would have gunned you down along with each and every other supporter."

(LOL <-- that's me interupting this to LOL, sorry)

Another donor reported a broken window, one said a flier calling him a bigot was distributed around his hometown and others received envelopes containing suspicious white power, according to the lawsuit.
Businesses employing people who contributed to the Proposition 8 campaign have been threatened with boycotts, the suit said.
Supporters of the gay marriage ban fear the donor backlash will hurt their efforts to raise money in the future, perhaps to fight an initiative seeking to overturn the ban.
"Several donors have indicated that they will not contribute to committee plaintiffs or similar organizations in the future because of the threats and harassment directed at them as a result of their contributions ... and the public disclosure of that fact," the lawsuit said.

Americans are so pampered, they even want revolution to be a neat, clean, anonymous affair. I don't condone death threats, of course, but if one is not willing to risk life and limb then we need to ask how flimsy will the foundation of change be if no one is willing to sacrifice for it?

People BLED at Stonewall; millions have died fighting for freedom and justice. I have stood on many police lines, testified in court against violent criminals, and am willing to put my body where my mouth is (Clinic Defense duty in the abortion wars of the 1990's was no fun).

I understand that there are loads of fanatics out there (can you say ISLAM!); and, as someone who has had more addresses than birthdays, am a harder target to hit. But, sometimes you've got to stand for something.

"And, the freedom fighters, we've got to hold on tighter. To all that you gave, you were the brave. . . bring on the revolution. Keep the pressure on. I want to die for something." - Chrissie Hynde (Pretenders) from the song Revolution

I don't agree with death threats as I'm sure many don't but when you change something like this in such a big way you need to expect people to be pissed off. That would be like banning straight marriage and expecting the country to just sit back silently and accept it. What one person believes should not dictate how others live their lives.

you don't have to fight... just live your life and speak your mind. I think it's great that the people supporting this crap have been told though. And it's even better that they are thinking twice about donating again.

The way i see it though, is all you can do is TRY to have love and respect for everyone... the more people do that the less of these hateful and disrespectful ideas will be able to get out there.

sorry... i ramble and never make sense just felt like saying something as it's almost 2 in the morning and i have nothing better to do

well done on the show, sandi

"No one said it would be easy, no one knew we'd come this far"
From a song by Sheryl Crow. Just thought it fit the situation.

Brave enough to donate. Not brave enough to be public about it. This is the new meaning of the word coward. I live in Sacramento, Ca. The capital of the State that got this initiative on the ballot. After the election I marched on the capital steps. A small group of "yes on prop 8" supporters had to be escorted away by police who feared they would be anihalated by the angry queers. After the first protest not one supporter of this measure showed up. They think they have won and that their end of the fight is over. It has only just begun. Queeers have been fighting forever for their rights and do not lay down in the face of defeat! Bigotry and hatred bands us together and brings out the fight in all of us! Heteros on the other hand are happy to be complacent because of their perceived status of normalcy. I've got news for you people. The fighting freaks will prevail!

Seems to me all these people see death as going to the promise land, no? God's will and all that hub bub? Salvation, go towards the light. They should revel in death threats and hope so dearly for god to forgive us of our sins!!!

My partner and I live in Singapore. We are both 24 this year. The GLBT scene is exciting here, though it is not yet legal to have a same sex partner as your lawful weded half. Anyway "weddings" are so for the straights.

I must say Prop 8 is totally a humiliation to our community. (And by this I really hope to bring across the msg that we, the GLBT community, has really got to be united and supportive of each other. Regardless of whether you're an Asian, a Caucasion, a Hispanic or whatever). Prop 8 totally upsets the foundation of what we have fought for all these years. We want equality in diversity. Why do we need straights (most of them are) to decide if it's "right" or "wrong" or "acceptable" or "illegal" for us to be together, recognised in the eye of the law?

Have you guys caught the movie "Milk"? It is so inspiring. If Harvey Milk is still around, he will flip. We have rallied around and fought a good fight..though Prop 8 was still put forward in the end, I just hope those common people can realise that it is very foolish to want to pass some laws to ban gay marriages just because. I dunno WHY they feel so threatened.

Recently in Singapore we have this Act 377A in our Penal Code Law, to criminalize sex between 2 mutually consenting adult males. Immediately, the GLBT community rallied to repeal against this Act by submitting as many signatures as possible in our Petition to be submitted to the Parliament for consideration. In the end we lost, but at least we fought a good fight. In Asian communities, gay males are more unacceptable than gay females because the Asian societal framework is generally patriachal.

Anyway, I just hope in time to come people will realise it's senseless to wanna pass acts and propositions against homosexuals. Don't they have more to worry about rather than meddle with our issues?

And to Sandi: you're the funniest, craziest woman around. You're right next to Ellen Degeneres on my list of loves.

Muacks! I love your podcasts absolutely.
